Abstract

279,523. Marks, E. C. R., (World Bestos Corporation). April 20, 1926. Yarns and threads.-In weaving friction fabrics, yarns are used comprising asbestos in paper like strips. The asbestos may be formed into a pulp and passed through a paper-making machine, binding material being used comprising oil-repellent materials, which may contain carbohydrates, such as sugars or starches, or cellulose compounds, or proteins such as caseins or albumens. The web is slit up into strips, which are wound on to flat rolls. The strips may be softened by moistening and be placed around wire elements 1, Fig. 3, of bran or cotton, &c. The strands thus formed may be twisted to produce the yarn 3. In a modification, an asbestos strip 7, 6 is loosely turned about a core or thread 6 of cotton, &c., a second thread 8 of cotton, &c. is loosely twined about the strip 7, and finally the whole is subjected to a close twist. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 13112/02 and 20027/11.
