[Also in Group IX] A yarn comprises a strip of fibre fleece which is oversewn in the longitudinal direction. The fleece 3, Fig. 1, which may be supplied direct from a carder or a scutching machine, may be divided into strips before or after being fed to a multi-needle sewing machine 5. Relative movement between the fleece and stitch forming means may cause the stitching 2 to pass alternately close to or outside the edges of the strip 1. The strip, which may be of circular cross-section before being oversewn or have its longitudinal section varying alternately between two thicknesses, Fig. 7, may be composed of two layers of different colour or material or have weft threads embedded in it.
