[Also in Division D1] The edges of a buttonhole in a knitted woollen garment are covered by stitching comprising an inner flat seam and an outer raised seam. As shown, the inner seam is a flat zig-zag seam having an upper thread 1 enclosing a reinforcing cord 4, and a lower thread 2, concatenation taking place within the work 3. For producing the outer seam, the tension of the upper thread is increased, whereby concatenation occurs over an upper reinforcing cord 4a to produce a raised seam. Woollen yarn is used for the lower thread. The stitch length of the inner seam is greater than that of the outer seam.
