[Class 140] [Also in Group VII] A puckered elastic fabric comprises a layer 1, Fig. 1, of material having little or substantially no elasticity to which is secured, at relatively widely spaced intervals, elastic threads or filaments 2, 3 extending in at least one direction and preferably in two directions at right-angles, the threads being applied under tension. The elastic threads may comprise a core 4, Fig. 3, of coagulated rubber latex covered with artificial silk '5 and may be secured to the basic material by stitches 6. The basic material may be a woven or knitted fabric of wool, cotton, silk or artificial filaments or mixtures ; it may be porous or permeable, or it may be finished with waterproofing compositions and resemble oiled silk, American cloth, &c. Closely-fitting garments are made from the elastic fabric by cutting out a piece or pieces without close regard to shape or size and securing together the edges at appropriate positions. Thus, a bathing costume, Fig. 7, is made by taking a rectangular piece of the fabric, hemming the edges 8, 9, securing the remaining edges at 12 and joining the hem 9 for a convenient distance at 13 to form leg openings ; the garment is suspended from the shoulders by a band 14 of tricot passed through the hem 8 and through eyes 15 secured to the hem by loops 16.
