Abstract

1,102,447. Knitted garments. KLINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. 20 April, 1965 [22 April, 1964], No. 16733/64. Heading A3V. [Also in Division D1] A nether garment, particularly tights or pantees, is knitted in two parts 11-14, each part including an integral crotch portion 16. As shown each part is knitted on a circular machine with heel like portion 16 formed by a picked knitting process, the body portion 14 is then slit along edges 17, 18 or 17<SP>1</SP>, 18<SP>1</SP>, the slits continuing into the portion 16 at 19, 20 or 19<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP> and edges 17-20 are joined to edges 17<SP>1</SP>-20<SP>1</SP> respectively. Alternatively each part is knitted on a flat bed machine as a blank with a projection at each side for forming the crotch portion. Each part is then folded in two and the edges of the leg and lower crotch portions are joined to each other. The two parts are then joined at edges corresponding to edges 17, 18, 17<SP>1</SP>, 18<SP>1</SP> by sewing or adhesive directly or with the interposition of a joining fabric strip. A thicker or heavier yam may be used for the portions 16 than for the rest of the garment. Tights are preferably completed by attaching an elastic waistband to the welt 20<SP>11</SP> or by associating a tie tape with the welt.
