Abstract

423,998. Patterned felts; compound fabrics. HEYDON, J. K., 20, Alexander Place, Kensington, London. June 9, 1933, No. 16567. [Classes 42 (ii) and 140] Several wads or sheets 14, 15 of felt are superposed, and an inlaid pattern is produced, on one sheet 15 by needling fibres 18 from the other sheet or sheets through it. The patterned material is then felted, milled, tentered and cropped. The wads may be drawn intermittently or continuously underneath gangs of barbed needles 11, 19 in a punch head, which is reciprocated across the line of travel of the fabric whereby a regular pattern 22 is produced. Fibres from two superposed wads 14, 25 may be drawn through the wad 15 at some parts 32, and fibres from the wad 14 only at other parts 31. According to the Provisional Specification, the wads may be of the same colour but of different materials, such as wool on the one hand, and a union of wool and cotton or rayon on the other hand, the pattern becoming evident after treatment with a dye which has a different action on the two materials.
