599,942. Heating wind direction apparatus by electromagnetic induction. ELECTRIC RESISTANCE FURNACE CO., Ltd., MARSH, J. H., GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and HARVEY, W. W. Sept. 25, 1945, No. 24828. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXV] A wind direction indicating apparatus of the type described in Specification 502,022 has a self-igniting induction heater comprising a primary 15 and a single-turn, short-circuited secondary 16 which also forms the heating chamber. The space between the windings is filled with heat-insulating material 24 and the pipe 30 containing oil to be vaporized passes through the secondary 16 which is thickened where additional heat is required by tubes 32, 33. The magnetic circuit 17, 17<1> is completed by bars of irreversible ferro-magnetic material 18, 18<1>, which pass through the secondary or heating chamber 16, the arrangement being such that when the regulating bars reach a temperature at which their magnetic properties are reduced, the unit takes a lower power input sufficient only to maintain the requisite temperature for vaporizing the required quantity of fuel.
