Abstract
599,846. Gaseous-fuel furnaces. UNITED STEEL COS., Ltd., and RUSSELL, G. A. V. Jan. 31, 1944, No. 1766. [Class 51 (i)] In a metallurgical furnace, particularly but not exclusively of the open-hearth type, fired by gas from a producer the supply of gas to the furnace is boosted by a fan arranged in the gas supply conduit between the producer and furnace. The figure shows an open hearth furnace of the reversible regenerative type. Gas from the producer passes through conduits 31, 30 to a fan 29 driven by a motor 32 and is then supplied by way of the reversing valves to either end of the furnace. A by-pass pipe 33 may lead the gas direct to the furnace in the event of the fan ceasing to operate.
