599,801. Vices. FUNNELL, K. R., and TREWAVAS, G. J. Nov. 9, 1944, No. 22044. [Class 61 (ii)] A device for gripping work such as a threaded rod B comprises a number of segments A of tapering shape outside, a block C of internal tapering shape engaging the segments and means for moving the block and segments relatively so as to close the latter on the work, such as by supporting the segments at A<2> on pivoted arms E connected by links G to a cross-bar G<2> actuated by a rod G<3> and foot pedal. In a modification, the taper segments are carried by a fixture secured to a bench and the block with tapered base moved downwards to close the segments on the work.
