Abstract

599,791. Hydraulic accumulators. WELLMAN SEAVER ROLLING MILL CO. Ltd., and BROOKS, C. Feb. 4, 1944, No. 2114. (Class 69 (ii)] In order to avoid shock loads in a weight-loaded hydraulic accumulator, the weight 5 is connected to the cylinder 4 or piston of an air cylinder, the other member of which is subjected to the liquid pressure in the accumulator. In one form, the movable ram 2 has a projection 3 forming the piston of an air cushioning device, the cylinder of which carries the weight 5. In another form, a number of pistons carried by the weight co-operate with air cylinders supported on the accumulator ram. In a further form, the weight is supported on a movable accumulator cylinder 1 having a hollow extension 16 projecting into a cylinder 17 which forms the piston of an air cushioning cylinder 4 carried by the weight. Alternatively, the weight may be mounted on a movable ram, which is then provided with the extension 16. In each case, in the event of sudden stoppage of the water flow from the accumulator, the weight is cushioned by the air cylinder.
