Abstract

599,682. Agglutinated fibrous materials. SPONGE RUBBER PRODUCTS CO. June 29, 1944, No. 12394. Convention date, June 18, 1943. Drawings to Specification. [Class 140] Padding material comprises a mass of fine fibres thinner than 41 deniers mixed with relatively coarse fibres thicker than 74 deniers impregnated with a coating material which bonds the fibres where they cross. The fine fibres may be wool, silk, cotton, kapok, jute, ramie, rayon, nylon, soyabean fibres, asbestos, glass or metal. The coarse fibres may consist of hog hair, cattle tail hair, horse mane hair, Tula or pita cactus fibres, nylon bristle. In an example viscose rayon with a staple size of 5.5 deniers of two to four inches length is mixed with an equal weight of a mixture of three parts of hog hair and one part cattle tail hair and impregnated with latex by spraying and dried by radiant heat. A thermo-setting synthetic resin may be used as the coating material if a stiffer product is required.
