Abstract
598,821. Paint brushes. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Sept. 12, 1945, No. 23505. Convention date, Sept. 21, 1944. Drawings to Specification. [Class 19] A paint brush bristled with tapered synthetic bristles and having improved paint pick-up, is characterised by from 10 to 100 per cent of the full length filaments thereof being waved, the amplitude of the waves being from 0.002 to 0.105 inches and the period of the wave being from .08 to 1.4 inches ; preferably from ¢ to <2>/3 of the length of the bristles from their tips should be waved, the remainder of their length being straight. The filaments may be waved by heating them under light pressure between two pieces of expanded metal screening, the butt ends being held straight between rubber pads of approximately the same thickness as the metal screening. The preferred filaments are made from polyamides of the type disclosed in Specification 461,236, [Group IV], and U.S.A.. Specifications 2,071,250 and 2,130,948, especially polyhexamethylene-sebacamide or -adipamide modified with phenol-aldehyde resins ; dyes, pigments, fillers, water - repellents and plasticisers or other modifiers may be present. Cellulose triacetate filaments are also suitable. The filaments may be tapered as described in Specification 535,263, [Group IV].
