Abstract
599,624. Hat-leathers. LAWRENCE LEATHERS PROPRIETARY, Ltd., and LAWRENCE, R. E. May 28, 1945, No. 13309. [Class 63] A sweat band comprises a strip 2 of leather or equivalent material having a channel 3 formed parallel with and near to one edge, about which the relatively narrow part 4 is folded back to lie against the inside of the hat, the lower edge portion of the folded strip being moulded or compressed into an outwardly curved ledge 6 terminating in a relatively sharp edge which engages the under surface of the brim. The part 4 is secured to the hat by stitching, lacing, cementing, snap fasteners or eyelets 7 and may have holes to facilitate the sewing of a ribbon to the exterior of the crown. In a modification, Fig. 8, distance pieces 12 of rubber felt, leather &c. carrying means such as rivets 7 for securing the sweat band to the hat, are secured either to the outer face of the part 4 or to a reinforcing strip 13 attached thereto. In a further modification for hats of the rigid type, the distance pieces are attached to one end of leather or webbing straps the other ends of which are turned back to form loops through which a cord is threaded so that the looped ends rest on the head.
