The above and other objects of the present invention will become apparent from a reading of the following description, taken in conjunction With the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a top perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention in the form of a cap;

Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view, taken through the crown of the cap with the visor portionv partially broken away;

Figure 3 is a sectional view, taken along line 3-3 in Figure 2;

Figure 4 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the present invention in the form of a cap;

Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional view, taken along the crown of the cap, the visor being partially broken ing formed therein which is surrounded by a head band defining the lower border of said Crown portion, a plurality of circumferentially spaced loops disposed along as at 24' and' being embraced by the lower border yof the 2 the outer face of said head band, a circumferentially extending strap surrounding said head band and registering with said loops, and means for adjustingV the circumference of saidv strap. The invention may beapplied to caps, hatsor the like as will be hereinafter set forth.

Referring now to Figures 1 to 3 of the drawings'which illustrate a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral 10' generally designates the improved cap. which includes a crown portion 12 having a lower peripheral rim defining a head band portion 14 which is formed integral with the crown 12. The crown 12 may be formed in any conventional manner and includes a pair of interitting top and ski'rtpanels 16 and 18 which are suitably intersti'tched along their abutting edges, the top panel 16 and vthe skirt panel 18 extending forwardly and overlapping theA upper face of a visor 20 which projects forwardly from the under edge of the head lband 14. The crown top and skirt panels 16 and 18 may be formed' of any suitable material such as fabric, plastic, leather `or the like, andthe visorv 20 may be faced with a material similar to that forming the crown or of any other desirable material.V The inner face of the crown 12 is provided with a. lining 22 which may completely coincide with said inner face or may cover only a part thereof, the lower'edge. of the lining 22 being inwardly hemmed head band 14which is likewise 'foldedinwardlyas at26.

Located along the outer face of thev headr band'1`4V are a plurality of circumferentially spaced loops 30 which may be formed of the same material as the crown 12 or of any -other desirable material of the same or contrasting colors. The upper ends of the loops 3i) are secured to the crown 12 by means of stitches 32 and the lower edges of the loops 30 are secured to the crown by means of stitches 34 which pass through the loops 30, the hemmed edges of the crown 12 and the lining 22 and the lower edge of the sweat band 2S.

A belt or strap 36 surrounds theI head band 14 and passes through the loops 30, the forward portion of belt 36 being disposed between the visor 20 and the overlying portion of the crown 12. It should be noted that the forward portion of the crown 12 is separably secured to the upper face of the visor 20 by means of snap fasteners inthe conventional manner. One of the ends of the belt 36 carries a buckle 38 and the other end thereof is provided with a tongue 40 having formed therein longitudinally spaced holes yi2 which are -selectively engaged by the buckle 38 thereby to permit adjustment in the length and hence the circumference of the belt 36.

The adjustability in size of the aforesaid cap is apparent from the above description. The cap is merely donned by the wearer and its circumference Iadjusted by adjusting the length or circumference or the 'belt 36` by means of the buckle 38 engaging a selected opening 42. It is important to note that the head band 14 is characterized by the absence of vany elastic material which would contribute to an uncomfortable article of headwear.

The embodiment yof the invention illustrated in Figures 4 through 6 of the drawings differ from that above described principally in the location and construction of the loops and in the disposition of the adjusting belt. The cap is provided with a crown portion 52, visor 54 and head-band 56 as previously described. Disposed along the inner face of the crown 52 is la lining 5S, the lower edge of which is hemmed and embraced by the hemmed lower edge of the crown S2. A sweat band 60 is located along'the inner periphery of the head band 56. Stitching is provided to secure sweat band 60 to the lower folded edges of lining 58 and crown 52. Located along the outer face of the head band 56 at the j t 3 sides, the rear and points intermediate are a plurality of loops 64, the upper and lower edges` of which are secured to the cap or hat by means of decorative studs 66, 68 which are provided-with a rearwardly projecting pair of pointed soft metal lingers 67, In assembly, the fingers 67 `of the studs 66 are passed through the loop and `through the material forming thercrown 52 and are then spread outwardly. ` A-belt70 passes through the loops 64, the ends of the belt 70 adjustably engaging one -another by means of a buckle4 72 carried by one end of the belt 70, the other the sides and rear end of the belt 70 having a series of holes to permit the adjustability of the belt 70. Y Y

The adjustment yof lthe sizes of the cap last describedv is similar to that of the first embodiment dilering only in` that the end portion of the crown is detached from the visor 54 during the adjustment operation and is thereafter re-secured.

l In Figure 7, there is illustrated a felt hat of conventional construction embodying the present invention. The hat includes a crown portion 74 having a lower head band 76 and provided with a brim 78. A plurality of loops 80 are secured to the outer face of the head band 70 by means of decorative studs 82, as previously described. A

An improved article of headwear'of adjustable `size comprising a crown portion having a lower opening formed therein whichi's surrounded by a head band delining the lower border of said crown portion,- a visor secured to and projecting outwardly of said head band, said crown portion overlying the upper face of said visor, a plurality of circumferentially spaced vertical loop's disposed along thevouter face of said head band, the Vupper and lower ends of said loops being secured to said head band by means of,studs engaging said upper and lower ends, said studs being provided with enlarged decorative heads and rearwardly directed legs passing through said loops and said crown portion and being laterally bent, a liner disposed within saidv crown portion and overlying said stud legs, a circumferentially extending belt completely encircling said head band and registering with said Aloops, Athe forward Vportion of said belt being concealed between said V`visor and the overlying portion of said crown, andbuckle means carried solely by said belt for adjusting the circumference of said belt and maintaining said belt in adjusted position. t
