[Class 119] The loading plug 9 of an air rifle has an abutment 23, and the cocking slide 27 has means, such as an arm 25, for engaging the abutment and thereby rotating the plug to the pellet-receiving position when the slide is retracted, the said means moving away from the abutment without imparting further movement to the plug when the slide is returned. The slide shown is slotted for guiding movement on a fixed abutment 29, and is connected by a link 31 to a cocking handle 33. As shown in Fig. 3, the plug 9 which has an enlarged head 11 fits in a correspondingly shaped transverse bore 3 in the rifle, being retained in position by the engagement of a fixed-stud 45 in a circumferential groove 47 of the plug. A groove near the head 11 receives a sealing washer 15 of U- section and of annular form, and a sealing stud 21 is fitted in the plug to seal the pellet-receiving hole 7 when the plug is in the position for firing. The plug is returned to the firing position by a handle 49. Specification 8246/06, [Class 119], is referred to.
