Abstract

599,256. Pulse-generating circuits. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. April 6, 1944, No. 6519. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1942. [Class 40 (v)] In a resistance-capacity coupled multivibrator, a cathode follower couples one valve to the other, a tuned-circuit being connected in the cathode lead. In the free-running circuit shown, valves 11, 13 are normally conducting, valve 12 being held non-conducting due to the large negative potential acquired earlier in the cycle of operation. Condenser 28 discharges over resistance 29 until valve 12 commences to pass anode current, the resulting fall in anode potential driving the grid of cathode follower 13 beyond cut-off. The sudden decrease in cathode current causes the tuned-circuit 33 to ring, the cathode potential passing through a negative half-cycle, cutting off valve 11, which in turn causes valve 12 to pass grid current and condenser 28 to recharge. The succeeding positive halfcycle is suppressed since valve 11 is rendered conducting, cutting off valve 12, which causes valve 13 to conduct again. The short negative pulse from the anode of valve 12 may be differentiated to produce a positive pulse delayed by a half-period of the circuit 33 with respect to the pulse from the anode of valve 13. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a dircuit, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), for producing a pulse to initiate a timebase in the generator 198 for a cathode -ray oscilloscope 193 and a delayed pulse for triggering a phenomenon to be observed and developed in a generator 197, together with marker pulses fed from valve 187. Valve 112 of the multivibrator pair 112, 113 feeds a negative-going pulse to cut off valve 141, the choke 138 giving a large positive pulse which is fed through the cathode follower 154 to the time-base generator 198, the oscillation of choke 138 being damped out after the first half-cycle by diode 153. The negative pulse from valve 112 is also fed through delay line 137 to amplifier 142 and cathode follower 155 to trigger off the apparatus 197 producing the phenomenon to be observed. This delayed pulse also cuts off valve 162, causing tuned circuit 161 to ring, the decrement being decreased by the crossconnected triode pair 167, the oscillations passing to a clipper cathode follower 187 feeding marking pulses to the oscillograph 193. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
