Abstract
612,244. Saw-tooth generating circuits. SCOLES, G. J., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 21, 1946, No. 15370. [Class 40 (vi)] In a time-base circuit particularly for scanning a cathode-ray tube, in which a valve is rendered conducting by a trigger circuit, when the voltage developed across a resistor in the cathode circuit of the valve reaches a predetermined amplitude, a voltage is applied to the trigger circuit via a rectifier to render the valve non-conducting. The Figure shows a time base valve V3 and a trigger circuit comprising cathode-coupled flip-flop valves V1, V2, valves V1, V3 and V4 normally being non- conducting' and valve V2 conducting. When a negative pulse is applied at S, normal multivibrator action occurs, V2 being cut-off and V1 rendered conducting, thus initiating the timebase sweep by way of known circuits indicated at A. The current through resistor R4 increases until V4 conducts, the potential at P then increases and reduces the current through VI, thus causing the multivibrator circuit to return to its original state, cutting off the time-base valve V3.
