Abstract
707,688. Sawtooth generating circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and KIRKNESS, R. H. Feb. 16, 1953 [Feb. 14, 1952], No. 4011/52. Class 40 (6) In a circuit of the "bootstrap" type in which a capacitor is charged over a resistor, part at least is connected in series with a rectifier which is biased to a non-conducting state over part of the sweep. Capacitor 1, Fig. 1, normally held discharged by valve 12 conducting, charges when a negative pulse cuts off valve 12, the resulting rise in potential being fed out through cathode follower 6 which also feeds back over coupling capacitor 8. Diode 17 is held cut-off whilst valve 18 conducts but upon a negative auxiliary pulse being applied to valve 18 during the sweep, resistor 16 is connected effectively in parallel with resistor 2 due to diode 17 conducting. In a modification, Fig. 2, the main sweep pulse is fed to the suppressor grid and the auxiliary pulse to the control grid of a pentode 24, resistor 16 being connected to the screen grid. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), in which the sweep rate is decreased during the auxiliary pulse, the resistor 2 is omitted and the valve 18 is arranged to be normally non-conducting and fed with a postive auxiliary pulse to render it conducting.
