Abstract
614,219. Pulse-generating circuits. SCOLES, G. J., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. July 9, 1946, No. 20507. [Class 40 (vi)] In a strobing circuit as used in a telemetry system, the strobing pulse is maintained always in the same relative position along the forward sweep of the associated time-base scanning voltage by adjusting the strobing circuit in accordance with a voltage proportional to the peak charging voltage acquired by the timebase capacitor. In the Figure the time-base capacitor C1 charges via the resistor R1 and discharges through valve V1 when positive synchronizing pulses are applied to its grid circuit at A. Valves V2, V3 constitute the strobing circuit, V3 being normally conducting and V2 biassed to cut-off by the voltage across the common cathode resistor R2. When capacitor C1 is charged to a sufficiently high voltage V2 conducts and V3 is cut-off a positive pulse appears at B and may be used to inititate some further apparatus. To ensure that this pulse is maintained in the same relative position along the saw-tooth wave when capacitor C1 charges to a higher peak voltage due for example to a delay in the arrival of the synchronizing pulses at A, the voltage across the capacitor C1 also charges a capacitor C2 the value of which and of its associated resistor R3 being such that the potential across them remains substantially unaltered during a cycle of the saw-tooth waveform. The voltage across capacitor C2 which is thus a function of the voltage excursion of the time-base is applied to valve V5 via the smoothing circuit R4, C3. The voltage at the tapping point of the potentiometer R5 in the cathode circuit of the valve, follows any variations in the peak charging voltage of capacitor C1 and is applied to the grid of the valve V3 in the strobing circuit to adjust the point at which the strobing pulse appears. Diode V6 prevents capacitor C1 from charging above a certain predetermined voltage by conducting when this point is reached.
