Abstract

756,678. Automatic frequency and phase control. COVILL, D. H. Aug. 12, 1954 [Sept. 9, 1953], No. 24910/53. Class 38 (4). The voltage controlling the frequency and phase of a line time-base oscillator, in a television receiver, is derived from a capacitor one terminal of which is connected to a point of fixed potential during each received sync. pulse and its other terminal being at a potential dependent upon the generator output voltage. The control voltage is derived from said one terminal through a low-pass filter and is of such sense that the sync. pulses occur at a predetermined point in the fly-back. The time-base generator 2 is coupled to a cathode follower 3, the cathode of which is connected to one terminal of the capacitor 4. The anode of pentode 1, which becomes conducting during the line sync. period of the television signal applied to its grid, is connected to the other terminal of capacitor 4. A resistance 5 shunting capacitor 4 completes the D.C. anode supply circuit of pentode 1 through valve 3. The control voltage developed across the capacitor 4 is fed to the generator 2 through a low-pass filter 6 ... 9. Frame sync. pulses are developed at terminal 10 of the screen-grid circuit of pentode 1 by the time-constant circuit 12, 13.
