Abstract

590,484. Pulse delaying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 18, 1944, No. 20198. Convention. date, March 20, 1942. [Class 40 (v)] Each pulse of a train is applied to a saw tooth generator, the resulting saw-tooth wave being limited at a specified value by an amplitude limiter, a corresponding rectangular waveform being derived from the output which. after differentiation, provides pulses corresponding to the initiation of the saw-tooth and the moment at which the saw-tooth reaches the specified value. Input pulses, fed to valve T1, are applied as positive pulses to the grid of valve T2 to discharge condensers 18, 19 which subsequently charge over resistance 17 to generate a saw-tooth when the pulse terminates. The switch 16 is placed in the lower or upper position according to whether the input pulses are of positive or negative polarity. The saw-tooth wave is fed to an over-biassed valve T3 to develop a positive-going rectangular wave on the cathode which is differentiated over condenser-resistance combination 22, 23 producing a delayed positive pulse and a negative pulse coincident with the input pulse. These pulses are fed to over-biassed valve T4 to suppress the negative pulse, the delayed positive pulse being amplified and appearing at the cathode or anode load with the desired polarity. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the saw-tooth wave is fed to a biassed diode which truncates the wave, the output wave being differentiated to produce a sharp negative pulse followed by a positive-going longer portion. After amplification in an over-biassed valve, the resulting negative-going rectangular wave is differentiated to feed the output valve.
