Abstract
592,792. Pulse generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. March 16, 1944, No. 4950. Convention date, July 30, 1942. [Class 40 (v)] In a multivibrator circuit the grid of one valve 27, in addition to being supplied with control signals, is connected over a time constant-circuit, comprising a resistance 51 in series with a condenser 49, to the anode of the other valve 27<1>, the grid of the latter being connected over resistances 45, 47 to the discharge path of the first valve 27. The grid resistance 37 of valve 27 is returned to the cathode so that the valve normally passes current, biassing valve 271 beyond cut-off due to the potential drop over cathode resistance 41. A negative triggering pulse, applied to the grid, cuts off valve 27, the rise in anode potential causing valve 27<1> to conduct. The fall in anode potential of valve 27<1> is fed back over condenser 49 and resistance 51 to maintain valve 27 cut-off until condenser 49 discharges sufficiently to allow the grid potential to rise to a value where anode current flows, decreasing the current in valve 27<1>, with the result that the circuit returns to its normal state. The waveforms of the generated pulses at the anodes of the valves change slowly throughout their length, Fig. 2 (not shown) and it is stated that by combining with the cathode potential by means of resistances 63, 65 and 59, 61 more rectangular pulses may be obtained. The input condenser 23 may be small for pulse operation or large or replaced by a D.C. source if low frequency operation is required. The resistance 41 may be shunted by a condenser or replaced by a battery.
