Abstract

599,210. Hinges. CLAIRMONTE, E. H., and CLAIRMONTE, C. M. July 24. 1945, No. 18965. [Class 65 (ii)] In a joint for connecting tubes or rods, the abutting ends have locking surfaces which coact to lock the tubes in an aligned position, a resilient connection between the tubes maintains the looking surfaces in engagement, and a pin-andslot connection between the tubes permits the locking surfaces to be disengaged and the tubes to be pivoted with respect to one another. Hinge members 11 having bands 13 and recesses 14 are fixed to the tubes 2a, 2b, and one member is provided with a pin 15 to co-operate with a slot 16 in the other member. A spring 17 is arranged between the end of the member provided with the slot and a U-link 18 which is threaded on the pin. In Fig. 3, tubes are hinged to a short link 20 so that they may be folded to lie parallel to one another. The Provisional Specification states the joint is applicable to the baby chair described in Specification 599,209, [Group XIV].
