Abstract

187,372. Hatcher, F. May 12, 1922. Hinges.-The hinge joint of a rod, stay, strut or like member, more especially as employed in the collapsable or folding cot described in Specification 103,921, [Class 52 (ii), Furniture for sitting &c. upon], comprises tubular socket members a, b linked together by an intermediate member d and secured in the extended position by a slidable sleeve f, the pivotal ends of the link being shaped to span the bore of the socket members in the direction of the pivotal axes. In the arrangement shown, the socket members house the ball-shaped ends d' of the link to which they are attached by pivots e. The locking sleeve is secured by a screw g engaging a slot f<1> formed with a lateral recess f<2> at the end or ends to prevent accidental displacement. A flat disc-like link may be used instead of a link having ball-shaped ends. When the jointed parts of a rod are required to fold in one direction only, the adjacent ends of the sockets are made square on one side, the other side being curved. The socket members may be formed of lengths of solid metal bored at one end to form sockets and slotted at the other end to house the intermediate flat connecting link.
