Abstract

598,635. Rotary meters. CLARK. N. O. Sept. 14, 1945, No. 23760. [Class 110 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] In a flow meter of the type comprising a helicoidal rotor pivoted on its principal axis in a conduit, a soft iron rod is provided on the end of the rotor and a pivoted permanent bar magnet situated outside the conduit is arranged to close periodically the circuit of an electrically actuated counter. The meter is used for foam or other plastic solids. The rotor 1, which is formed by twisting a strip of thin metal through half a turn, has pointed trunnions 2 pivoted in bearings 3. The latter are carried by cross-bars 4 of circular section mounted in the tubular conduit 5. The bar magnet 7, pivoted transversely about its centre and slightly overbalanced by an attached weight 10 is attracted when a soft iron bar 6 carried by the rotor passes near it, and moves to close an electrical contact 12. The latter may operate an electrical counter of the telephone subscribers' type, or may operate an electrical differentiating' circuit whereby instantaneous flow valves are indicated by a galvanometer.
