438,053. Fluid-flow indicators. KENT, Ltd., G., 199, High Holborn, London.-(Ionides, M. G. ; Irrigation Directorate, Baghdad, Iraq) May 11, 1934, No. 14308. [Class 97 (ii)] [See also Groups XXVI and XXXVII] A fluid-flow indicator which is suspended in a stream flowing past it, comprises a body 1 and a yoke piece 2, 3, and a rotor with vanes 16, which is supported on two bearings 8, 10, as shown. A cylinder 19 of insulating material, and a metal member 18, together form a chamber 23, in the bottom of which is placed a small quantity of mercury 24. A metal washer 20, screwed to the cylinder 19, has one screw 21 extending through the cylinder and making contact with the mercury once per revolution of the rotor. A terminal 25 is connected to one line of an electrical circuit including a battery and a telephone, or other electrically responsive device. This terminal connects with the washer 20 by way of the yoke piece. A second terminal 26 completes the circuit through the parts 6, 7, 8, 18, and the mercury 24. Parts 5, 27, 13, are of insulating material. The bearing 10 rests in a plug 11 which may be pressed axially against a spring 30 to effect the removal of the rotor. A tail pin 32 is secured to the body 1 by means of a plug 33 held by a screw 34. The pin member may be made in two parts. The indicator is suspended on a strap 36 which passes through two slots 35 and is held by a screw 37. A lead weight 40 is attached.
