637,738. Humidity measuring. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. May 19, 1947, No. 13454. Convention date, June 6, 1946. [Class 40 (i)] A hygroscopic resistance is compensated for ambient temperature by connecting it in circuit with a resistance (thermistor) having a similar sloping negative temperature-resistance characteristic. Four circuit arrangements are shown. In one arrangement the hygroscopic resistance 12, and thermistor 16 are connected in series with an indicator 18, and supplied through a potentiometer 22 from a D.C. source. Alternatively the indicator meter may be connected across either the hygroscopic resistor or the thermistor, Fig. 5 (not shown), or the thermistor may form the lower arm of a potential divider supplying the hygroscopic resistor, Fig. 4 (not shown). In a further arrangement the thermistor 54, and hygroscopic resistor 56 are arranged in adjacent arms of bridge circuit with a fixed resistor 52 and a calibrated resistor 58 in the other arms and an indicating or control device such as a polarized relay 60 connected to the balance points. With an electrolytic film type hydroscopic resistor which has a complex impedance and an A.C. supply, a capacitor may be required in parallel with the resistor 58 to obtain balance.
