Abstract

597,331. Pipe couplings. THOMPSON PRODUCTS, Inc. Oct. 23, 1944, No. 20532. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1943. [Class 99 (i)] In a coupling of the type in which each coupling member carries a valve which is closed in the uncoupled position and in which the coupling is secured by a movement which opens the valves, the valves comprise a pair of plates 29, 30 which are slidably mounted within the coupling claws 25, 26. The plate 30 has a boss 36 engaging in the opening 35 of plate 29, and each plate has flanges 33, 34 which engage corresponding recesses in the other plate. In coupling, the claws 25, 26 pass through these recesses and the plates are moved traversely so that the flanges 33, 34 engage the claws. Ball detents (not shown) engage recesses 58, 69 in the coupled and uncoupled positions respectively. Limit stops 61 are provided.
