Abstract

596,793. Thermally-actuated valves. CORNER & CO., Ltd., G., BENNETT, T., and HURST, E. Dec. 18. 1944, No. 25350. [Class 135] A thermally-actuated valve for controlling the gas supply to, and thereby the temperature in, a cooker and having an externally adjustable pre-setting device connected to the ends of the thermostat extending into the valve casing includes a nut 12, Fig. 1, which coacts with a screw 11 carrying the low expansion element 9 of the thermostat the high expansion element of which is secured to the valve casing having a gas inlet 5 and an outlet 36. The nut is formed with a groove 13 which is engaged by ears on the short arm of a lever 25 pivoted at 23 to a bracket 26 on the casing, and with end slots 14 engaged by projections 15 formed on the inner end of the spindle 17 of an operating knob 22. The spindle is formed with a conical face 20 held by a spring 21 in gas-tight contact with a seat 19 in the casing. The other end of the lever 25 is secured by a lost motion pin- and-slot connection 27, 28 to a valve 30 which is held off its seat by a spring 37. A byepass valve 40 is provided to permit the flow of gas when the valve 30 is closed. In action, an increase in oven temperature above the predetermined value set by the extent of engagement between the nut 12 and the screw 11, causes element 9, through the lever, to move the valve 30 towards its seat to reduce the gas supply.
