596,600. Sampling liquids. ANGLO-IRANIAN OIL CO., Ltd., and McCASH, J. A. April 5, 1945, No. 8433. [Class 106 (v)] Apparatus for taking samples of liquid at any desired depth comprises a sample container c enclosed in a cage a which carries at its upper end a spring-loaded plunger b connected to a line b<2> and carrying a stopper b<1> for the container c. In operation, when the apparatus has reached the required depth, a pull on the line b<2> will remove the stopper b<1> from the container, the spring d effecting its replacement after the sample has been taken. The plunger b is vertically adjustable by means of a nut b<4> on a screwed rod b' and is formed, as shown in Fig. 6. with a cut-away portion to enable the stopper to be readily inserted and removed. The container c is removably held in the cage a by a screwed base plug e.
