Abstract

At one end of a container (30) there is fixed a piston (472) which slides in a cylinder (468). An axial passage (476) of the piston connects the container (30) with the cylinder (468) via a valve (488) preventing the liquid from leaving the container. The top of the cylinder has an axial passage (455) in which is fixed the tip of a hollow needle (444). The needle is forced through the septum (432) of the receptacle (422) while the piston is at the top of the cylinder. On pulling the container (30) downwards, the piston is made to slide, which causes liquid to be sucked in from the receptacle. Then, the liquid is forced into the container (30) by pushing the piston back to the top of the cylinder. It is thus possible to transfer blood serum from a rigid receptacle to a closed container, while avoiding contamination of the serum. <IMAGE>
