[Class 38 (i)] {Also in Group XXXVII] An insulator 2, contact 3, or other device in the liquid - filled casing 1 of an electrical apparatus is adapted for inspection, without emptying the casing of liquid, by placing a tube 6 round the device so that its lower end makes a liquid-tight joint with the casing, the liquid in the tube being then removed. The tube 6 is preferably of metal with a removable screw-top 8, and is held in tight engagement with a collar 9 and packing ring by a screw thread on the collar 9 or on the neck 10, or by bolting to the flange 12. The tube 6 may alternatively be permanently housed in casing 1 and provided with lowering mechanism. The contact 3 co-operates with a switch arm 5 which is moved from the dotted closed position shown in order to permit insertion of the tube.
