Abstract

724,443. Microtomes. USINES CHIMIQUES DES LABORATOIRES FRANCAIS. March 11, 1953 [March 24, 1952], No. 6721/53. Addition to 673,591. Class 97 (1). In a cutting-apparatus of the type claimed in the parent Specification, the support having a space to receive the cutter blade and having coaxial bores receiving adjustable members supporting the tissue to be cut, is formed by a substantially rigid tubular block. As shown the block 57 has a gap 58 to receive the cutter blade 89 mounted in a carrier 88 sliding between members 86 and 96 adjustably connected in the block 57. Screwed into a bore 62 in the block 57 is a tube 64, held in adjusted position by a nut 65 and in which a plunger 69 is screwed, the end 73 of the plunger engaging the specimen 95 which can slide without rotation in grooves 68 in the tube 64. Coaxial with the bore 62 is a bore 76 in which is fitted a part 77, clamped in the bore 76 by outward movement of jaws 81 effected by a conical portion 82 of a screw member 83, and having at its outer end a shallow cavity 79 of approximately the width of the sheet required. In operation the plunger 69 is screwed until the end of the specimen 95 is in the cavity 79. The cutter 88 is then inserted in the gap 58 and moved downwards and sideways to cut the specimen. The blade is removed, the jaws 81 released by unscrewing the member 83, and the part 77 is removed for removal of the slice from the cavity 79. The part 77 is replaced, clamped in position and the operation repeated.
