Abstract
p-Aminomethyl-benzene sulphonamides of the formula <FORM:0595857/IV/1> (where Y denotes H, CH3, C2H5, C3H7, p C4H9, CH2C6H5 or C2H4OH) are prepared by treating formyl-benzylamine with chlorsulphonic acid and thereafter treating the product in known manner to convert it into a sulphonamide and to remove the formyl group. In examples: (1) formyl-benzylamine is treated with chlorsulphonic acid and the product treated with ammonia and then hydrolysed with hydrochloric acid to give p-aminomethyl-benzene sulphonamide, and (2) formyl-aminomethyl-benzene sulphochloride obtained as in (1) is treated with methylamine and then hydrolysed with sodium hydroxide to give p-aminomethyl-benzene-sulphonmethylamide.
