Abstract

595,804. Automatic control systems. BROWN, W. F. June 14, 1945, No. 15187. [Class 38 (iv)] Electromotive force.-A stable voltage E2 is derived from a voltage E1 by means of the potential drop across a resistor R2, the current through which is varied by biassing a valve V in accordance with variations in the condition of non-linear resistors due to change in input voltage and output current. This is effected by connecting its cathode to a potential divider R, D1, the lower end of which comprises a non-linear resistor Dl, and its grid to a potentiometer D3, D2, R4, R5, the upper end of which comprises two non-linear resistors. Since the value of the resistor decreases with current, the negative grid-cathode voltage decreases with supply voltage and vice versa, producing the desired effect. Temperature control may be employed to prevent variation in the values of the resistors for a given electrical condition.
