595,535. Specific-gravity estimating- apparatus. THEONVILLE, W. M. July 6, 1945, No. 17261. Convention date, July 6, 1944. [Class 97 (iii)] Apparatus for weighing and determining the specific gravity of granular, flaky, powdery or like materials comprises a main weighing container 1 into which a charge of material is supplied and weighed and an auxiliary container 5 of known volume which is filled by a portion of the charge and retains said portion when the remainder of the charge is emptied from the main container, after which the retained portion is weighed by the apparatus to give an indication of specific gravity. As shown, the auxiliary container 5 is secured centrally in the container 1 by stays 10 and has top and bottom closure slides 6, 7 which are secured to a rotatable shaft 8 operated by a handle 9. The stays 10 are of gable form in section and the upper closure slide 6 conical so as not to retain material when the main container is emptied. The charging of the container 1 with a predetermined charge from the source A, the operation of counting mechanism, the stopping of the supply of material from the source A, the closure of the slides 6, 7, the opening of the closure flap 4 of the main container 1 and the recording of the specific gravity of the portion retained in the container 5 may be effected automatically by electrical means.
