Abstract
225,025. White, A. E., (Blaw-Knox Co.). Oct. 24, 1923. Fixed - chamber apparatus for delivering measured quantities of materials such as sand, gravel &c., comprises a storage bin 7, a measuring hopper 12, and a valve arranged between them at a distance from their edges so as to allow the natural slope of the material to determine the upper limit of the quantity delivered to the hopper. Fig. 2 shows the filling position with the valve 26 open, and Fig. 3 shows the valve closed and the hopper 12 ready to be emptied. The valve may be formed as a trough with the bottom partly cut away leaving an edge 34, Fig. 7. The side flanges 27 are arranged to run on rollers 25 mounted in frames supported by depending flanges 11 of the bin 7. When the hopper is filled, the material takes up the angles of slope 35, 36, Fig. 2. When the valve is closed, a quantity of material is carried forward to the line 40, Fig. 3, and falls down when the bottom door of the hopper is opened. The valve is actuated by a lever 33, and the bottom door 19 of the hopper, which is counterweighted, is released by a cord 21. The hopper is supported by the plates 11, and is made in two telescopic parts 13, 14 which may be adjusted so as to vary the quantity measured. The form of the slide valve may be varied, or a rotary valve may be provided. Two or more hoppers may be arranged to be fed by one storage bin.
