785,663. Delivering measured quantities of fluent solid materials. BARBERGREENE CO. Oct. 25, 1955 [Sept. 9, 1955], No. 30526/55. Class 106(5) Measured quantities of loose material, such as mineral fines for mix ture with aggregate and asphalt as described in Specification 786,923, are delivered by elevating the fines from a storage bin 69 to a storage shoot 12 above a variable-volume measuring chamber 10, discharging them under control of a gate 13 into the chamber and varying the volume of the chamber until, by weighing, it is found to contain a required weight of fines, discharging the fines and thereafter performing succeeding operations volumetrically by filling the chamber until it overflows, the overflowing fines being returned down a shoot 68 to the storage bin 69. The overflowing fines operate a pivoted vane in the overflow shoot 68 and the vane closes a switch to cause a fluid-pressure cylinder to close the gate 13. Excess fines supplied to the storage shoot 12 are returned to the bin 69 through a shoot 77. The measuring chamber and weighing means are as described in Specification 786,923.
