434,853. Packeting granular &c. materials in formed receptacles. BATES INTERNATIONAL BAG CO., 60, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A. Sept. 12, 1934, No. 26169. Convention date, Jan. 31. [Class 94 (i)] In a machine for filling valve-bags with weighed charges of granular or pulverulent material, the charge is compacted as it is fed to the filling nozzle by a tapering solidcore screw, while the bag is shaken up and down to settle the charge. The material is fed to the weighing hopper 14 with the assistance of a rotary agitator 13, and the weighing device 15 operates to close first the inner gate 16 when the greater part of the charge has been deposited and then the outer gate 17 when the charge is complete. The agitator 13 is stopped, and if desired a lamp is lighted to notify the operator. The handle 33 is raised bringing the clamp 31 downwardly to hold the bag in position and releasing the bottom gates 20 of the hopper 14. The charge falls into a shoot 22 having an agitator 26 and is fed to the filling nozzle 29 by a tapering screw 24. At the same time a shaft 47 is clutched to the driving shaft and by means of an eccentric thereon effects a jigging motion of the bag platform 51. The reduced resistance to the screw 24 when the bag is full may be utilized to light a lamp.
