[Class 94 (i).] Weighed quantities of granular and powdered material are fed into so-called valve bags by two or more paddle wheels working in series, two being shown, the wheel 5 feeding the smaller and narrower but faster running wheel 1. The control valve 14 in the delivery tube 3, a valve 15 in the main duct from the hopper, and an exhaust valve 17 from the chamber of the wheel 5, are of the plug type. The stack of bags is fed by an intermittently moving chain 31 whenever the end bag is pulled by hand from the position shown against the plate 32b between the jaws 23<a>, 23b of the holder. These jaws are pivoted on inclined shafts 22<a>, 22b, are closed by springs and locked in closed position by a block 25 on a sliding rod 49. The bag bottom rests on an inclined belt on the rollers 26 during the filling operation. On depression of a treadle 40 the valve 15 is opened and the valve 17 closed by means of the rod 45 and the valve 14 is opened by means of the rod 41, the valves which are counterweighted being locked in these positions by pawls 51 and 14<b>. When the required quantity of material has been delivered the scale 21 tilts and withdraws the pawl 14b whereupon the valve 14 closes and releases the pawl 51 so that the interconnected valves 15 and 17 close and open respectively, the rod 45 in lifting also lifting the rod 49 by means of the blocks 47, 48 and thus raising the block 25 to free the holder jaws 23<a>, 23<b>, and lifting the pawl 27 to free the inclined belt on which the filled sack rests.
