Abstract

1,174,527. Bagging machine; discharging articles. TROYER MFG. CO. 11 March, 1968 [15 Feb., 1968], No. 11812/68. Headings B8C and B8S. [Also in Division G1] In a rotary bagging machine, feed shoots have pivoted arms to grip bags against the shoot walls and release them in a power-assisted manner, the power means having a neutral position at which the arms are influenced by gravity only so that they are readily moved clear during fitting of the empty bags to the shoots and then fall back to grip them lightly. Articles to be weighed and bagged pass through openings 14 in a rotating wall 11, which forms a hopper with an oppositely rotating cone 10. These openings are controlled by gates 16 and their upper portions are closed by springs 15 permitting visual inspection of the hopper contents level. When the gates are open the articles enter adjustable width discharge shoots 17. These shoots are mounted on balance arms 28 to operate the weighing scale 29. Bags are gripped against the shoot walls by pivoted arms 44, two to each shoot, which are each powered by double acting piston and cylinder means 61, 62 acting through a lost motion connection including a link 54. The cylinder 62 has a spring 66 to hold the piston in a neutral position so that the arms can be manually raised to place the bags on the shoot and then drop so that the weight of the arms hold the bag. Just prior to commencement of filling, the piston 61 is moved upwards to cause the link 54 to engage the arm 44 so that the latter grips the bag simultaneously with the respective gate 16 being opened. When the bags contain a predetermined weighed amount, the gate 16 is automatically closed and the piston 61 operates in the reverse sense to release the bag.
