908,739. Automatic feed weighers. LAKE, C. A. June 15, 1960, No. 20988/60. Class 143. Apparatus for continuously bagging and weighing articles comprises a chamber adapted to receive a supply of the articles, a pair of outlets in the chamber which are alternately closed by a closure member, a spring loaded hinged flap, to interrupt the discharge of articles through one outlet while permitting discharge of the articles through the other outlet, a pair of weighing machines each adapted to support a bag to be filled with its mouth adjacent one of the outlets and means, a latch, actuated by each of the machines when the latter operates under a predetermined load for effecting movement of the closure member by releasing a catch thereon to cause it to move and close the outlet through which the articles have just been discharged to the loaded bag and uncover the other outlet to enable the articles to be discharged to a bag supported by the other machine and to engage the catch with the latch controlled by the other weighing machine. A pair of weighing machines 1 comprises a platform 2 for weights 3 and a load platform 4 which has an upright frame 6 carrying a lateral frame 7 for a bag 8 in alignment with one outlet 9 in the chamber 10 receiving a supply of articles. A shaft 13 in the chamber pivotally mounts a flap 12 on one end of which is a catch 14 which engages one of two latches 15 pivotally mounted on the wall of the chamber. The other end of the shaft carries a link 17 and a link 18 freely rotating thereon, a spring 16 connects the free ends of the links. The link 18 swings downwardly and upwardly between two stops 19 and the link 17 pivots with the shaft 13 between stops 17a. The links initially abut stops 17a and 19 over deadcentre position with the spring 16 stretched. At the correct weight the platform 2 guides and pulls a cable 20 connected to the latch 15 so releasing the catch 14. The shaft pivots under the action of the spring and rotates the flap to close one outlet and open the other. The links 17 and 18 are reset manually to abut the other pair of stops and with the spring 16 stretched the catch 14 engages the other latch 15 and the bag below the other outlet 9 fills.
