Abstract

516,362. Moulding composite bricks. REED, G. W. June 21, 1938, No. 18455. Convention date, June 21, 1937. [Class 87 (ii)] Relates to machines for making composite bricks and of the kind in which a mould provided with a movable lower platen 34 is successively charged to its momentary capacity and then enlarged by lowering the said platen further, each time with a different material. Each material 122, 124 passes from a movable charging-box while the latter is substantially stationary in a position above the mould and while the platen is being lowered, and as each charging-box is moved into position above the mould, the platen is either flush with the top of the mould, or the mould is full to its momentary capacity, so that, as each charging-box moves away from its operative 'position, its lips serve to level the charge. The twocompartment charging-box shown has a partition 120 that may' have a movable part which is lowered during charging to prevent the materials from intermixing. The charging-box is fed from a hopper 130, one of the compartments being provided with a valve 144. The charging-box may be provided. with rotary agitators. When the mould is filled, the charge, is pressed between the platen 34 and an upper platen.
