Abstract
595,532. Combing-machines. PLATT BROS. & CO., Ltd., and PIERREPONT, D. July 6, 1945, No. 17252. [Class 120 (i)] Relates to combing-machines (e,g., of the Nasmith type) wherein the setting of nippers relative to a detaching roller is controlled by movement of a nipper-setting shaft 15, Fig. 1, to which are fixed arms 16 connected by rods 32 to side legs 12 supporting nippers 11. The usual adjusting quadrant on one end of shaft 15 is replaced by an easily accessible setting arm 17 located approximately midway of the length of the machine and connected to a radial arm 20 which is longer than the remaining arms 16. Angular deflection due to torque on shaft 15 is thereby reduced, and increased uniformity and accuracy of setting of all the nippers obtained. Setting arm 17 is adjustable in a -guide member 18 by a manually operated screw-threaded rod 22 engaging a bracket 21 on arm 17, a pointer 31 being provided on guide 18 in conjunction with a graduated scale 29 on arm 17. As applied to a double-sided machine, Fig. 3, radial arms 20<1>, 20<11> are provided with extensions 36 each having a boss 37 with a radial slot 38 in which is secured a stud 39 engaging the jaw of a lever arm 44 operatively connected to the side leg of a nipper, the remaining nippers being connected to other downwardly projecting arms on shaft 15<1> corresponding to extensions 36.
