Abstract
595,225. Charging trucks into mine cages. INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION, Ltd., and DAVIDSON, G. W. June 19, 1945, No. 15564. [Class 78(iv)] A method of operating winding apparatus in mines wherein the loaded trams are hauled up the pit shaft in two cages which are arranged so that when one cage is at the bottom of the shaft ready for loading, the other which has previously been loaded is at the top of the shaft ready for unloading is characterised in that a loaded tram is discharged from the top cage by an empty tram moved into the cage and, before or after being emptied, is transferred laterally to a position in alignment with the position taken up by the second cage when this reaches the top of the pit shaft, this tram subsequently being pushed into the second cage to displace a loaded tram from this cage and then be lowered to the bottom of the shaft for loading. Figs. 1, 2 show an embodiment in which loaded trams are dis-. charged from double-deck cages 1a, 2a into tipplers 3, 4 and the latter are subsequently rotated to discharge the contents of the tram on to a conveyer. The top deck of cage 1a is first brought into alignment with the tippler 3 and the loaded tram on the top deck is discharged into the tippler 4 by pushing one of two previously emptied trams in the tippler 3 into the cage by a hydraulic ram 5. The lower deck of the cage 1a is then raised into alignment with the tippler 3 and the remaining tram in this tippler pushed into the cage by the ram 5 so as to transfer the loaded tram on the lower deck into the tippler 4. Both tipplers are now moved laterally into alignment with the position occupied by the second cage when at the top of the shaft by rams 3a, 4a and the tippler 4 rotated to empty the trams. When the second cage reaches the top of the shaft its trams are displaced into the tippler 3 by pushing the empty trams in the tippler 4 into the cage by the ram 8. The tippler 3 is then rotated to empty the trams and both tipplers then moved laterally into their.original position and the cycle repeated.
