Abstract
994,338. Dropping pitprops down a mine. HOUILLERES DU BASSIN D'AQUITAINE. March 4, 1964 [March 5, 1963], No. 9161/64. Heading B8S. Pit props 1 (Fig. 1) are fed on trolley 2 and rolled one by one down slope 3, whence they are carried upwards by carriage 41 actuated by chain 4 so that the pit prop 1 falls sown slope 8 and is held by valve 10 actuated by cylinder 18. Under the control of an operator in the mine below, cylinder 18 is actuated to withdraw valve 10 and permit the prop to fall down shoot 7 till it strikes buffer 12 at the bottom of the mine. The prop is displaced sideways on to device 13 till the latter is filled. Device 19 is then discharged on to truck 28. Retarding device, Fig. 4.-Each prop 1 is provided at its forward end with a cap 32 secured to the prop at 29 by arms 31. As the pit drops the cap operates as a piston to reduce the speed of fall. Discharge device 13, Fig. 3.-Each pit prop rests on a respective lever 19 pivoted at 21 and is discharged therefrom by the raising of one end of the lever (as shown) by cylinder 25 to permit the prop to slide down into the carriage 41 below.
