Abstract

594,869. Welding electrode holders. PETERS & CO., Ltd., G. D., and BLACKSHAW, J. E. July 3, 1945, No. 16913. [Class 39 (iii)] An electrode holder comprises a main member 1 having a fixed jaw 2 and a pivoted movable jaw 5 actuated by a toggle mechanism formed by inter-pivoted links 8, 13, one of said links 8 being joined to the operating handle lever 11 and the other 13 being pivoted to a relatively fixed but adjustable anchorage 14 whereby operating the handle 11 the pivoted links 8, 13 are moved a slight distance beyond the deadcentre position whereon the movable jaw 5 grips the electrode, the anchorage 14 being adjustable by screwing inwardly or outwardly the carrier nut 17 so as to ensure effective grip on any selected electrode within a given range of sizes. The toggle link 13 carries two projecting arms 21, 22 engaging with the operating lever extension of the link 8 whereon lug 21 serves to limit the handle movement on opening and the other 22 limits the movement of the link pivot 12 beyond the dead-centre position on closing.
