Abstract
Detergent compositions free from water soluble salts of capillary active alkyl-naphthalene-sulphonic acids comprise a mixture of a b -monohydroxyethylamide of a fatty acid of from 8 to 20 carbon atoms and a water-soluble salt of the sulphuric acid mono-ester of a b -monohydroxyethylamide of such a fatty acid. The latter salts are preferably the sodium salts. The ethanolamides specified comprise lauroethanolamide, stearoethanolamide, oleoethanolamide, and ricinoleoethanolamide; also the ethanolamides from naturally occurring mixtures of fatty acids such as coconut oil acids, tallow acids and castor oil acids. The complex sulphates specified comprise stearamidoethyl sodium sulphate, oleamidoethyl sodium sulphate and lauramidoethyl sodium sulphate. The detergent mixtures may be made, where the fatty acid residues of the two components are identical, by incomplete sulphation of the b -monohydroxyethylamide. The compositions are used dissolved in aqueous baths. Specification 573,524 is referred to.
