Abstract

594,022. Condensers. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. May 25, 1945, No. 13073. Convention date, May 25, 1944. [Class 37] A frame member 1 with upright arms 2, 3, carrying bearings 4, 5, supports a cylindrical member 7 mounted on a threaded rod 6 so that an axial movement of the cylindrical member 7 is produced by rotation of the rod 6. The member 7 may be of ceramic material and is coated with two metal films, each film extending slightly less than 180 degrees round the inner periphery of the cylinder and constituting two movable plates of a pair of condensers which serve to tune the oscillator and signal circuits of a superheterodyne receiver. The oscillator plate 10 is suitably shaped along its length to permit the oscillator circuit to " track " with the signal circuit, obviating the necessity for a padding condenser. The cylindrical member 7 engages varying amounts of a concentric metal cylinder 15 rigidly mounted to form the common plate of the two tuning condensers. The insulating tube 18 which supports the cylinder 15 may also constitute a former for an oscillator coil contained within the cylinder 15. Specification 559,717 is referred to.
