Abstract
593,875. Speed governors. HOULDING, H. June 19, 1945, No. 15505. Addition to 563,416. [Class 57] A modification of the governor described in the parent Specification in which a weight 20 is pivoted at 21 and connected by a link 23 to an extension of the arm 7. When the vehicle is ascending a gradient the weight 20 tends to swing to the right and assists the spring 5 to maintain the unbalanced valve open. When descending the gradient, the weight assists the spring to close the valve. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement wherein the spring 5a is anchored to a pin 6a on a rod 23a carried by a diaphragm 25. The pendulum 36, when the vehicle ascends a gradient, opens a valve 31 to connect the chamber 26 to a pipe 42 and induction pipe vacuum to move the rod 23a to cause the spring to exert a greater force to maintain the valve open. The valve 31 is loaded by an adjustable spring 32 and the pendulum may be connected to a dashpot device 40.
